Car Safety: How to Know if your Car is Safe to Drive 100%

Warning Lights

This is a collaborated post. See our discloture for more info.

You should always put the effort in to try and familiarise yourself with all the lights that are on your vehicle’s instrument panel. Each light means something different, so look at the ABS light, or even the engine light. If these stay on when your car is driving, then this could indicate that something is wrong and that it is not safe to drive. You need to take it to a garage as soon as you can and you also need to verify that everything is working as it should. Your owner’s manual should let you know what everything means and it will also help you to know if there is anything you can do in the meantime. If your car is deemed unsafe to drive by the mechanic, then you may want to look into a new vehicle. A used Porsche Cayenne is a fantastic and affordable choice.

Brakes

Your braking system consists of a huge range of moving parts and components. You should always have your brakes inspected at very regular intervals. It also helps to look out for your brake pedal losing resistance as well. You may find that you have to push it all the way to the floor in order to get your car to stop, or on the flip side, you may find that your braking is too hard. Either of these problems really does indicate that your car is not working as it should and that something needs to be done.

Transmission

Modern transmissions are very reliable to say the least, and they are designed to last a very long time. You do need to make sure that your transmission filter is changed on a regular basis. When the fluid gets dirty in the transmission, this indicates that you have a problem with your car’s performance and this needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. You may notice that you have some hard shifting and that there is a clunking sound as well. The transmission will need to be serviced if this is the case.

Engine

The engine supplies power to the transmission and to the other parts of your car. If you have a problem with the engine, then this could affect the overall performance. If you hear strange sounds coming from under the hood, then this could indicate that you have a major issue on your hands and that something needs to be done because your car is not safe to drive.
