When The Unavoidable Happens

Like the title says it just happens sometimes. A couple of days ago I had just such a thing happen.

I was ill, I couldn’t walk properly because my hip was acting up really bad and I had a lot of joint pain, BUT I had to get my daughter from pre-school. So what were my options?

  1. Bite the apple and force me to walk, it’s not that far….but it would make me an invalid for a few days…
  2. Take a taxi.

I went with option number two.

Which brings me to the point of this post!

Travelling safely in our spare seat Britax Two Way Elite used forward facing for Taxis.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a sudden thing, if it’s a planned thing, or if it’s a hospital appointment thing. Your child should ALWAYS be in a car seat when in a car. There is absolutely nothing special about a Taxi. It’s just a completely normal car, it can crash just like any other car, it’s not made out of anything safer then your own car, so if you aren’t one of those parents who thinks it’s OK to put your kid in the back seat without a car seat (which you really..really…shouldn’t be..) then you shouldn’t be one that would put your kid in a Taxi without one.

That is why I have a spare seat that takes seconds to install, and a booster for my daughter because she’s now 4 so I can allow her to sit in one in unexpected short journeys or emergencies. But I would never ever not use anything at all, because we NEVER know when the accident may occur, and statistically? You are more likely to be involved in an accident within 10 min of your own home.

Personally, I don’t think it should matter what the law states, it’s a terrible law and it should quite frankly be re-written, it’s so old now it’s verging on ancient.  The law is a minimum, surely our children deserve maximum?

So what are my tips to you for a safe Taxi journey?

Little man was a bit unhappy as he thought I was going to leave him bless him.

Don’t forget that the no puffy coats in the car seat and booster seat is still very important even when we make unexpected journeys! I made a demonstration video about it as well.

I’m going to leave you with this little beauty as well!
