The Voksi® Explorer Review

VoksiExplorerReview

Recently BeSafe asked if I would like to test out their new Voksi Explorer car seat & pram footmuff/sleeping bag – for which I could not say no.

I have long wanted to review a product such as this! And the reason being is that it’s normally not something that I would recommend that you use in the car seat.

This is because some of these types of products can interfere with the harness.

Crash Tested

I am happy to have found that the Voksi Explorer is not one of those and I am even more happy to be able to announce that it has been crash-tested with BeSafe’s car seats.

They are now crash testing absolutely all of their ‘aftermarket’ category products – and that includes this right here.

And yes, I am fully aware that crash testing of aftermarket products do not currently have any type of ‘standard’ like the car seats do – but BeSafe has assured me that the products are crash tested in their car seats during a normal crash test with the dummy and all.

Currently, we can’t ask for more.

How is the fit?

My little testing man this time around is Leo and he was 10w at the time, so quite small to use this in the car seat, but it did fit him well.

The harness was not at all compromised when using this product – even without taking off the back-piece.

I would be careful though! Even if I didn’t find any faults with his fit in the car seat whilst using this – I am always a bit wary of anything that could be considered a strangulation/ asphyxiation risks in one way or the other. And him being so small, the Voksi Explorer does look quite big on him.

To be fair – not once during the use and testing did it ever “fall down” on the sides and come near his face. But I am as I said – always a little sceptical with products that can decide to come near the face.

The top part has a string you can tighten and loosen and this does help here.

Tightening string.

I would highly recommend that you sit in the back with the baby or have your baby in the front passenger seat with the airbag off if your baby is very young.

The whole back piece where the harness goes can be taken off.

Then comes the cynic in me of course, which is that I don’t think you really need something like this on a day to day basis, because it’s going to very very hot in the car.

For Pram & Car Seat

The fact that the Explorer is also a pram sleeping bag is what saves it in my eyes – because it is very good in the pram. It’s got ‘anti-slide’ at the back panel.

This helps it not move around and the harness holes are fitted for a 5-point harness as well as a 3-point, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Anti-slide on the back.

The Explorer is something I would say fits well on the travel system when you are doing the school run and might be standing outside waiting, that is if you are using it in the car seat.

In the pram, it works really well for all occasions and it’s quite nice and warm, so you need minimal layers on your baby when using it.

Please be aware that when using a car seat outside the car – your baby should not spend too long in the car seat.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
