Top Tips: Things You Need For a Long Car Journey

Happy easter

]

It’s the easter holidays and the kids are off school!

Maybe you are going on a trip? Holiday? If so – you might find this post very useful.

Driving with children can sometimes be a battle. As a driver and passenger it can sometimes be hard to keep the back seat happy, especially on a long car journey – and because of that, I have given you my top “5” items I think are invaluable to a long car journey. I hope you find it as useful as I do.

Top Tips: Things You Need For a Long Car Journey

For Baby:

For the smallest passengers on the journey, there isn’t really that much available to entertain them.

Alas, I have found some items I think will be suitable AND safe for the journey. Way too often parents will unknowingly buy after market products which can potentially cause harm in an accident.

Because of that – all items here are “throw safe” – which means that you go by the rule of thumb where if you are comfortable “throwing” an item in your baby’s face (not that you WILL! ) then it’s safe for them to have in the car seat.

For Toddler/Child:

Long car journeys will usually (at least in this house!) mean sleeping kids in the back seat.

Trunki Yondi:

I mentioned the Trunki Yondi before on the blog. It’s a product I recommend to many if they have issues with head flop, all though please remember that head flop is not dangerous in healthy children over 6m old. Still, many do prefer to use a product such as the Yondi, so I have added it to the list as it is currently – as far as I am aware – the only doughnut-shaped neck pillow which is approved for car seats.

Trunki SnooziHedz:

Another great one is the SnooziHedz from Trunki. It comes with an inflatable pillow and a fleece blanket.

The blanket measures 70 x 90cm and can be gripped to the pillow, which is a nifty feature and prevents the blanket or pillow to be lost or fall down in the footwell, or at least it prevents them from falling down as easy as they would otherwise do. hehe

For Older Children:

BubbleBum Junkie Car Seat Organizer & BubbleBum Sneck Travel Pillow:

A product I recently was introduced to (quite by accident actually!) is the BubbleBum Junkie Car Seat Organizer! I was a little sceptic at first, as I tend to be with anything that can store things and isn’t put on the floor or boot, but this product is actually good. The Junkie is restrained with the vehicle seatbelt so it should not move when correctly installed.

The Junkie transforms your backseat, organises your junk and keeps your kids entertained. It features a “tech mount” for kids to share one device, so both kids can access, interact and view together; while two compact, retractable activity trays are ideal for snacking and play. Junkie also features two convenient cup holders. A removable, reusable, refillable tote bag fits into the Junkie’s expanding central compartment to keep snacks cool and toys handy – and is easily removable to transport all your junk from home to car. Junkie is secured using the vehicle seat belt and folds back easily to its original size for storageBubbleBum
Grainne Kelly, the founder of BubbleBum, qualified as a National Child Passenger Safety Technician in the US to build the necessary understanding and skills to launch the BubbleBum inflatable car booster seat.

The ‘Sneck Travel Pillow’ is suitable from 4 years up and can be used on planes as well as in the car.

Perfect for car journeys, bus trips or fly-in’s. The Sneck easily attaches to the headrest with a velcro strap so it stays in place and the kids can snooze comfortably. It also comes with a stash pocket so your child can store their mp3 player or mobile device while not in use.

Trunki Bootapak:

If you’re going on holiday, needing a taxi to the airport or going on a bus, the Trunki Boostapak comes in handy. It’s a booster seat with a backpack!

Be aware that the law has changed! And that boosters are for BIG KIDS! :)
