Welcome to what I hope will be a useful guide for anyone looking to find cars which will let you put “3 across” in the backseat.
By that, we, of course, mean car seats. If you are like me and have 3 children or maybe you have more children – getting them all in the car can be a challenge! What could complicate this is when you are struggling to install 3 car seats in the car…oh dear! So as a helpful guide I am here going to list those cars for which my research has proven will let you install three car seats across in the back seat.
It’s important to search long and hard for the right car for you and your family’s needs – Pentagon Mobility Cars have a good variety of options!
The list is alphabetical and this guide will be in 2 parts to try to not keep it too long! Photos of the installs if they were available – and all photos which have kids in them will have been pre-approved and sent to me by the parent – so I haven’t put anything here that wasn’t already cleared.
I hope this helps you in your car search!

Audi
- Q5
Tried a TWE, Axkid Minikid & Cybex Sirona. Tight fit but works. In fact if the Cybex was taken out, you’d easily fit another Axkid or a Radian type of seat in it. - Q7
Isofix across 2nd row. - A4 Avant
Isofix across 2nd row & front seat. Passenger airbag turns off.
BMW:
- 2 Series Gran Tourer
The second row of seats in the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is approved for transporting three child seats, positioned directly next to each other. The two outer seats also feature ISOFIX child safety seat fasteners, which are concealed under flaps. - 3 Series Touring
Easily 3 across. Isofix across 2nd row & front seat. Top tethers. Passenger airbag turns off. - 5 Series Estate
We got Maxi Cosi Cabriofix & Easyfix base, Britax Eclipse in the Middle (will work with a slim RF seat as well), and Britax Adventure high back booster. It was a squeeze, but we had no safety concerns when finished. The seat bucketing particularly at the doors makes it difficult in the BMW’s.
Citroën
- Berlingo
Tried 2 x Britax TWEs & 1 Diono Radian 5. Lots of room. Isofix across 2nd row. Top tether. Passenger airbag turns off. - C4 Picasso
- Cactus
- Grand Picasso
- Xsara Picasso
- C8
Is exactly the same as the Peugeot 807. Fitted 2 x Besafe Izi Plus and a Besafe Izi combi across the middle row.
Citroen cars can also turn off the passenger airbag and apart from the Xsara – they all have top tethers. Citroen also allows leg extension into the bottom compartment.
Chrysler:
- 300
Ford:
- Galaxy
Has isofix across 2nd row in newer cars. - S-Max
Has isofix across 2nd row in newer cars. - C-Max
- Mondeo estate
Has top tether. Isofix outer seats (can be retrofitted). Airbag switch can be put in.
Honda:
- Odessey
- HR-V
Hyundai
- ix 35
Maxi Cosi Pebble (no base) and Britax adventure high back booster on the outside seats with a Britax TWE rear facing in the middle. Also works with another Britax Adventure if you take the Pebble away. Unfortunately not big enough for an isofix base because the fitting points are quite in from the edge of the seats. - Santa Fe
A fab car that fits 3 across the back seat very easily in any type of combo. And no bottom floor compartments!
Kia:
- Carens
- Sportage
3 across depending on your need for front seat space. - Venga
That was part 1 of this 2 part series. If you have any pictures you would like to share of 3-across in any of the cars mentioned – please email me!
If you have any cars that are not on the list (A-K) that should be added also please email me!
I would like to thank everyone who is sending me more cars that are not on the list and or just a heads up on info of what they have tried – you are really helping out so many families!
So THANK YOU! xx
Part 2 covers M-Z.
