Small spaces are something that most homes might have. There’s always that odd room in the home that can be difficult to navigate when it comes to the decor. However, you often make do with what you can, but there are definitely ways to transform small spaces in your home. Here are four ways to do it!
Consider An Extension
An extension is something that is worth considering if you have the available budget and the space in which to add on the extension. It’s not something that’s possible for all homes, but it can definitely be worth taking advantage of if it’s something that’s available for you to do. An extension can be a great way to open up a small space and to make it as big as you want it. It can help with spaces that might not be able to fit in a reasonably sized bed, or perhaps you’ve always wanted to extend a small kitchen area or living room. Extensions are something to consider seriously though as they often take a lot of careful planning and work. The disruption might be something that you have to cater for too depending on what room you’re focusing on. Make sure you’ve planned it well, whether it’s a terrace house extension or you’re simply knocking down a wall to make an open-plan living space.
Rearrange The Furniture
Rearranging your furniture can be a great way to help with a small space because when you first move into your home, you put everything where you thought it should go. However, over the years, you might add stuff to the space, and then it might not be as functional as you first had it. For that reason, it’s a good idea to think about how you can move the furniture in that space to help complement the room more. Start by shifting the larger items of furniture and moving onto the smaller ones after. It’s surprising how much of a difference it can make, and the best thing about it is that it’s free!
Use Lighting & Colour To Trick The Eye
Lighting and colour are two great ways to help trick the eye when it comes to space. Having some natural light and perhaps focused areas of artificial light can help make it seem a lot more spacious than before. A dark and dull room is never going to be appealing, regardless of the room’s size. Colour also plays a part in giving the room a bigger feel, so try to opt for lighter colours and try to bring the eye up to the walls, rather than focusing any lighter colours on the floor.
Think About Mirrors
Mirrors are a great way of transforming a small space because they reflect areas of the room, making it seem bigger than it actually is. It can be great to put ceiling to floor length mirrors around the space if possible.
